Portrait of my Grandfather, Louie Elias Gonzales

For my mother’s birthday this year, she asked for a portrait of her father, based on her favorite photo of him. Rather than do a straight copy of the photo, I was inspired having recently seen Frida Kahlo’s The Suicide of Dorothy Hale at LACMA to include the text. I thought I would emphasize my mother’s desire to honor his memory, and his Mexican heritage.
